I have always loved Valentines Day, which is quite ironic considering it’s the day of love, and for 21 years I have spent each and every single VDay, well… single. Until this February 14, I have spent the day with my closest single girlfriends; watching day-appropriate movies [Valentines Day is always top of the movie list], getting dressed up and going out to eat, and the list goes on.
This year will be the first year that I actually get to spend Valentines day the way St. Valentine intended; with my man.
But, that’s not to say that I haven’t enjoyed each Valentines Day i’ve spent single with my girls. So for all of you single beauties out there, I want to lend a hand in you having an amazing night by sharing some of my favourite girly Valentine’s past-times that you can hopefully take inspiration from.
Over the years, this is something my friends and I have loved doing! Whether it be accompanied by takeout, or bags of chocolate and popcorn, it’s always good to indulge in some soppy romance movies with friends!
[With friends] – Put names in a hat, set a budget, and surprise one another with either something that they’d genuinely like, or something funny and Valentines-esque.
Host, or partake in organising a dinner party for you and your girls. The best part about this is that it can be super fancy [getting all dressed-up], or do the opposite and have a cosy night in with comfort food and pyjamas!
There’s nothing wrong with acting like a kid now and then, right? So why not do it in the best way possible, and go all out with ice cream sundaes, face masks, makeovers, and a classic game of truth of dare.
This is totally dependant upon your idea of fun, but most of my friends and I are very creative, and spend most of our lives patrolling Pinterest which provides us with lots of fun DIY ideas. When better to make some of those DIY dreams a reality than a VDay night with the girls? Get crafty with scrapbooking, get creative with old school paper and paint, or even re-model a piece of furniture that you’ve been wanting to Pinterest-ify. Whatever you decide to do with this one, you know it’s going to end up in laughter, covered in paint, and be an all-around good time!
Fancying spending this one alone? Why not! Stock-up on your favourite bubble bath, moisturisers, nail polish, face masks, Honest Hazel under-eye treatments, and detox teas for the ultimate pamper session. What’s better than paying yourself some T, LOVE, & C on VDay? Even if you don’t have a significant other, that doesn’t mean that you can’t love on yourself on the day of love.
I hope that whatever you end up doing on Valentines Day that you have an amazing time. Make the most out of the day of love, whether you’re single or in a relationship. Don’t let this day make you bitter, or cynical. If you’re single, it doesn’t mean that you have to hide under your duvet and hibernate for 24 hours until the coast is clear of red roses, heart shaped balloons, and humans walking two-by-two. Make sure to have fun, and spread love everywhere this Valentines Day; no matter what your relationship status is.
